analysis on 'Let me in'

1. Film makers use the camera in ways that would let us to understand the film better. A lot of shots were focusing only on one thing in a shot, by fading everything else out. This is done, so the audience can focus on one and main thing at that moment. This was done because there is a lot going on and a lot of action. there was some bleared out shots used, from patients point of view, to show us that it is something serious that has happened to the patient. His vision makes me wonder of what happened.

2.Subjective use of camera was used at most times, specially while having a conversation between the main character and Abbie, bullies at school an so on. Everything else as: Abbie killing was objective because the main character either watched it or wasn't involved in it.

3.Mise en scene was very good, because of interesting way of showing Abbie, and that she is out of this world (different), because of the way she acts and the way she dresses. It is cold winter outside, but the girl is walking with bare feet.

4. At the beginning the film doesn't seem like what it was at all. It is quite confusing. From the beginning there was disequilibrium because of the atmosphere and mis en scene. there was some strong friendship moments, that made me smile, so there was also some equilibrium. Film was very unpredictable.

5.Sound used was usually very tense at some moments, to make the shot more affective. There was usually a special sound, that would let us know, that danger is coming, that someone is going to get killed.

6.Targeted audience for this film would have to be over 15 and no one with heart problems, because this is a thriller. Also I wouldn't advice and old people with health problems to watch it.

Analysis on two opening scenes.

I analysed two opening sequences of two films.
The dividing bell and the butterfly.

French movie, based in France.Picture at the beginning is very unclear. As somebody is blinking their eye. I hear loud breathing. All of this shows me that this is from persons point of view. There are a lot of flowers in the room, from this i get idea of where the location is (hospital) and the main character is the patient. Extreme close up is being used on doctors face while speaking to the main character. He is unable to speak, but we only hear his thoughts so we actually hear him speaking but nobody replying to him.He breaths heavily, so he is in pain. Unclear picture, doctor tells him that he were in coma for almost 3 weeks. He does undertand everything, but he is like locked in his body.
Camera shots are slightly not orientated because it is all from the patients point of view or eye. The person isn't very orientating very well, so that's why camera shots are also very unclear.

Youth without youth

I can hear clock ticking, but cant see anything for few seconds. I see a scalp of a human in medium shot. This gives me idea, that death is going to take a part in the film.I see close up of a clock. It is very old fashioned , which shows me that this clock could have been passed on  from someone, but it has "With love Laura" written on it, so it was given to her lover. Upside down picture of woman (extreme close up). I see a lot of notes and letters on a piece of paper. Some of it has been crossed out. Medium shot is used to show the woman in pictures passing the clock directly to camera, which would probably suggest that to the main character. Medium close up of an elderly man sleeping in bed, just woken up from a dream. He has his eyes open, the lightning is very poor, because we can only see half of his face. He just sits down in the bad and wide shot of the room has been used to show the location, which is a bedroom. The lady that he saw in his dream has died, the scalp gave me idea. So now he is all alone and he can't cope without her. He is crying, but this shot is wide shot , but I can only see his back. Can't see his expressions while crying.

Both openings were very wonderful and I enjoyed analysing it.

The script.

Characters Martin and Violet.

It is very stormy outside. You can only hear it, because curtains in Martins bedroom are closed.Wide shot is used to show us the atmosphere.
His phone is calling. close up of phone is used, to concentrate and think of reasons why is it calling and who is trying to reach him. It seems like there is nobody in the room as Martin is just laying there with no signs of life in him. It is very quite. More like dead quite only rain keeps dripping against the window.
Then we hear Martin moaning in pain. his phone keeps calling but he couldn't answer.Medium close up is used to show the pain in Martins face. Physically and mentally.
Violet enters Martins room in hurry and anger.Long shot is used when she enters.  She looks around the room and she sees empty tablet bottles right near him. She looks scared to death and extreme close up of her face is used to show her expressions.
  Violet: What have you done?

Martin: looks away from her. never replies.

  Violet: screams Why?

Martin: I am sorry, I couldn't stand this.

Violet: Oh no! with tears in her eyes.Marin? Martin? She screams his name.
Violet checks Martins pulse. Extreme close up is used. Extreme close up is used to show Violets facial expressions. She is crying. It looks like she will break down in a minute!
Violet looks over her shoulder, facing the door. She puts her brave face on.

City of god

I have watched and analysed the opening sequence of city of God.
Denotation: I saw knife, chicken, party was going on, people cooking food, Chickens being tied up, alcohol, people chasing chicken, that has escaped Two boys talking, guns, shooting and aiming at the chicken, those two boys ends up near the chicken, boys with guns and police. Boys with guns and police are now facing the chicken and one of the boys.
This description probably wouldn't make sense to anyone if they haven't watch this opening sequence, because shots can show and express a lot about what is the meaning of all this!
This is connotation I came up with. I felt that somebody will get killed because of the knife at the beginning. This gave me negative feelings, which is disequilibrium. People are having a party, there is very loud and fun music, which gave me cozy kind of feeling. In fact it kind of made me want to dance! This I would call more of equilibrium. Close up shot is used on chicken, we kind of get the idea of what the chicken is there for in the first place. There are some scenes of people just killing and cutting up the chickens.I didn't really feel very comfortable to watch it. I felt like I wanted to become a vegetarian after watching this. This would be disequilibrium. There is only one chicken that is tied up and is watching the death of its friends or family. Close up is used to show chickens emotions and scare. The chicken tries to escape. Long shot of chicken have been used to show how it unties its leg and gets away.Chicken has now escaped and bunch of boys are chasing it. Wide shot is used to show us more of the place. Fast cutting of shots is used to show us the action. It wasn't very funny, but the music made me laugh very much, so I would call it equilibrium.
Scene cuts to two random boys. long shot was used. Wide shot was used to show us the chicken and these two boys running on to people that were chasing after chicken. To show whatÅ¡ going on around this boy, camera turned around in 360 degrees in a slow motion. This gives me feeling that this random boy is actually going to be  Protagonist of this movie and the boys chasing chicken were just antagonists.
This is very dramatic opening as it kept on changing from very sad to very funny, by help of music and shot angles.
